So, now that "we" have elected the most leftist candidate in decades (if not the most leftist ever), how do you all feel that it will play out?

Will Obama stay true to his true ideological base and bankrupt entire industries for a made up ecological crises? Confiscate our 401ks? Begin the process of surrendering Iraq to the enemy?

Or will he see the political reality of what it will take to get re-elected in 4 years and truly move to the center?

I hope it is the latter.

But in the meantime....Viva la resistance!

I truly feel that Obama is a typical extremely left-leaning Hollywood type. That being said, I also feel that he basically said whatever he felt would get him elected at the time. In other words, I think that in his view of the world, he believed that most Americans sympathized with the extreme left, and so he portrayed himself as such. The way he morphed his position to match McCain's every time he was starting to lose ground convinced me of this (e.g. off-shore drilling). I found him to be much more dishonest than your typical politician, promising whatever gave him the most points with no apparent regard for moral conviction.

So, the optimist in me is hoping that most of the most disturbing characteristics of his campaign promises, like the socialist economic policies, "civil defense force," pacifist foreign policy, and the tremendous tax increases, will go by the wayside when he is confronted by reality since he never really truly argued from conviction (in my opinion) when he was campaigning.

The realist in me, however, believes that he does actually believe in some of his campaign promises, and he is going to seriously harm this country with his socialist and militarily pacifist policies. I believe that he will harm our economy by directly and indirectly attacking our industries, and he will compromise our safety by weakening our military -- something that democrats always do when they come into office; particularly those who believe that our country needs to acquiesce to the needs of the world.

I think what's at stake here is nothing less than our status as the richest and most powerful country on the planet. Like my good friend BG once told me, the most powerful empires in history all understood one thing -- You will only have peace in your time while you possess the most powerful army.

Si vis pacem, para bellum

I am going to give Obama the benefit of the doubt.

Having said that....at least Clinton was in office a few years before the scandals started surfacing. Will dirty politics (Chicago style) taint his legacy?
